I LOVE food. People ask why I spend so much time in the kitchen, it’s not because I particularly like cooking. That is false. I actually like eating. So, if I want to eat really yummy food I usually (slightly begrudgingly) have to put in some time in the kitchen. Knowing this, if an opportunity to eat delicious food, but not have to make it, presents itself - I take advantage!
With young kids at home, it’s a rare occasion to find ourselves with such opportunities. So, when the kids were invited to a neighbour’s for dinner over the weekend, we definitely took advantage of an evening just the two of us!
With my love of food, one of my favourite things to do on a childfree (carefree!) evening is to eat out. I especially like to go somewhere that makes dishes I would not cook for myself (or would fail trying! lol).
Lucky for me, we have a gem in the village that fits this criteria perfectly. The Village House! An adorable husband and wife run restaurant in the heart of Wakefield Quebec, that serves delicious artisanal food. It’s warm and intimate, with rustic decor. They also have a cozy patio during warmer months, with views of the river and boardwalk. The staff are so lovely as well! Did I mention how great the food is?! It’s open concept, so you can see the kitchen staff create their works of art, while you attempt not to drool on yourself. Good luck. With a dynamic menu, you won’t have the same thing twice! You’ll just dream about it forevermore… lol
Mart and I were able to squeeze in an impromptu romantic outing, and each had a drink and shared the Mushroom Truffle Pate, with Goat Cheese, Herbed Focaccia, and Red Onion Jam. OMG. Pardon the drool again. We even bought a Tourtière and some of their Smoked Tomato Jam (for which they are renowned for), from their takeout fridge as a gift for my dad (but shh!). We can't wait for our next visit!
So, what are you waiting for!? Book an evening at La Violette Bed & Breakfast, so you too, can savour the flavours of The Village House during your stay!
Nat :)
